Our Trip to Bataan

After months of planning, changing destinations, and fighting, my high school friends and I have finally put a foot down on a destination to kick off the summer season - Bataan. A province in Central Luzon that I haven’t been to!

We stayed at Bataan White Corals. A beachfront property that also hosts an amazing pool neither of which I wasn’t able to enjoy because I wasn’t in the best mental space to dip in water.

Our first night in Bataan featured food mostly. For dinner, we went out to look for places to eat at, but to our surprise, restaurants in this part of the country closes at 7:30 PM. In the stores we visited, the vendors thought we were children. They thought one of our friends who’s with child and is with her 6-year-old was a teen mom (she’s 30). It was a funny encounter.

The highlight of the trip was our visit to Las Casas de Acuzar which we’ll refer to as Las Casas during the entirety of the post.

It was a top recommendation from the worldwide net and it piqued our interest. Las Casas is a collection for houses from all around the Philippines. Yes, a collection of houses. Is it a village? No, ma’am, it is more of a museum where you can marvel at beautiful, expensive Filipino houses bought by the Acuzars and transported to Bataan for everyone to enjoy.

It’s such a bizarre idea for a museum,, but once you’re there, it’ll make sense how the owner would want to preserve them. Each of the houses were carefully thought of and are well made. Every detail was spot on! This was the first time I saw architecture as a form of art, and I respect that.

During this time, I also was able to cycle again. I was biking through the property under the summer heat. The dehydration lead me to drink three glasses of sago’t gulaman which also lead me to have gastritis in the evening. I vomitted the entire dinner time, and our plans to wake up early to go island hopping has been postponed.

The morning after we traveled back to Laguna. Our driver was driving fast and we were unfortunately caught speeding in Subic. They had to pay for the fee. I did have a separate rant for them that I posted on Facebook so that’s a story on its own, but what I do know is we’ve blocked each other on Facebook and we’re not going to book them anymore.

I felt better that morning, luckily, and I even was able to eat breakfast and go home safely.

I was adamant to go at first, but considering I was the main travel planner, it felts wrong not to enjoy the fruits of my labour. I’m glad I made it. It was nice to hang out with my high school best friends.
