What Happened in January
The first month of the year is always the longest, but I never complain. Since it’s my birth month, I’m happy to have January last longer.
It probably feels longer because we don’t usually have things planned on the first day of the year. We usually have them Q2 or Q3, but seldom in January. We just wanted to get the block out of the way and just do them.
I had piercings
One of the things that I was so terrified to do back in the Philippines was to have my nose pierced. I’ve always mentioned how my family is conservative, and having a facial piercing would guarantee snarky comments from whoever.
Still, I’ve always wanted one because I thought it would look good on me. I took advantage of the fact that I am not at home to put an earring on my nose, and another one in my helix area, and I feel so proud.
When we arrived at ATLAS Tattoo Studio here in Hurlingham, I was so nervous that I don’t hear anything anymore. Not to mention, I was on my period so all of my sensations were heightened.
Then the piercing started, he pierced my nostril first. When he put the needle in, it wasn’t painful, but girl, when he took it out and put the earring on, it felt like I was going to faint. I heard a ting in my ears and that’s the only thing I know.
After which, I looked at my face in the mirror, and I gave myself a pat on the back for my brevity. I sat on the chair again for my helix piercing. I was still in pain from the nostril piercing. I wanted to puke and lay down, but I chose to do two piercings at a time, and I was determined to do just that and I did.
What I learned from this experience is first, stand with your decisions, take care of yourself, and if it doesn’t harm anyone, then it doesn’t really matter what anyone thinks. I just know I got through the fear of getting hurt.
I turned a year older!
I was happy to celebrate my birthday in a new place for once, with a loving family still. It was my first time hearing “Que lo cumplas feliz” the Argentinian “Happy Birthday” song. I felt like a local.
I started Spanish Classes
To my surprise, and to my own fault, I didn’t know that the Spanish classes I enrolled for would be starting this January, but it did, and I think it was a great start to the year! It’s a 3-month class. We’ve already had 6 sessions, and I’m genuinely enjoying.
It is true what they say that it is kind of hard to learn things as an adult, but to be honest, I don’t really mind. I think learning something new all the time is a way for your brain to exercise, and our brain needs a constant workout or else it would be stagnant.
I moved for 25 days
One of the habits I’ve built is to move regularly. It doesn’t have to be a full 30-minute HIIT workout every time, a quick dance session would fit. I usually would dance to any song and find a low-impact workouts online.
This month, I’m proud to mark 25 days as moving days! I’m guessing it’s a great start. I aim to reach at least 47 kgs by the end of this year, I’m at 56 3 months ago, and I haven’t weighed myself since. I think it kind of helps, too.
I think the enjoyment of the doing pushes me more than seeing the scale. I have enjoyment in walking around the city, low impact targeted workouts, and yoga! I love stretching my body and I wish to get my childhood flexibility back.
Well, we’re moving one step at a time. We’ll get there.
I watched 11 films
Our favourite pastime (my boyfriend and I) is watching films (if not eating burgers and pizzas, and we actually often do both at the same time.) This month, I tracked down the films that we’ve watched planning to write about all of them here in the blog, but I came to realise that writing takes time, and I do take a lot of time writing.
Here is a list of the films I’ve watched this month! Out of all them, my favourite is The Girl on the Train. I loved the unfolding and the concept of the film. It’s heartbreaking, it’s hopeful, and it’s a must-watch!
- Locke
- Wicked
- Anatomy of a fall
- The Colour Purple
- The Imitation Game
- Gilda
- Neverending story; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
- The Devil’s Advocate
- Nosferatu
- The girl on the train
Final thoughts
From the longest month, we’re now starting the shortest one. I don’t have anything planned for next month (personally, I have tons from work), and I’m looking forward to seeing how this month will unfold. Happy February, everyone!
